A Beautiful Affair, last two weeks -- what happened?

It started with a very promising story but failed to deliver. A Beautiful Affair kicked off last October, celebrating the 10 years of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo's successful team up on screen. Sadly, it seems the teleserye has become a disaster and needs to be taken out of Primetime Bida ASAP.

What went wrong for ABA one would ask? Well one main point of the soap -- that beautiful affair people were expecting, didn't translate on the small screen. What I have observed is that it's wedding trailer, which promised a surprised revelation of some kind during the event itself, was what the viewing public was waiting for to unveil on the teleserye itself. Oh, Pinoys love a kilig trailer. They also expect what happens in the trailer to happen on the drama mismo.

Instead, A Beautiful Affair became the story of Gen (Bea Alonzo) and Edward (John Estrada) with the minor inclusion of Leon (John Lloyd Cruz). It's focus also went to the business side of things, Gen's family's struggle over control of their company and how Edward's money comes into play. And also there's this annoying plot about a cult, Warriors of Light and the entrance of another character Carlota (Eula Valdez), who was not introduced nor hinted at in the promotions of the soap. Was Carlota really part of the picture or was she just instantly added by the writers to add some spice to the already 'getting cold' story?

A Beautiful Affair lost its direction, mainly focusing on Leon and Gen's love story, which was nicely executed when they were still in Austria. When Gen and Leon got home in Manila, all went downhill for the soap. And in two weeks the teleserye says adieu, with still a lot of the things to unfold in the plot -- like how will Gen and Leon get a happy ending? Or how will Carlota discover her lost son is Leon? And how will Edward resolve his one-sided love for Gen and confront his rival, who turns out to be his nephew? I hope the producers of this show won't make sorry excuses like 'Talagang 2 months lang ang soap namin' crap. Walang Hanggan proved that if your show gets ratings, it gets extended and not ended abruptly.

Oh well. So much for banking on the JLC-Bea love team for this teleserye. A waste of a project for the two if you ask me. It makes me wonder what teleserye will be replacing this one. Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw? I'd rather injure ROPA and the Warriors of Light than watch Kris Aquino's iisang mukha acting. It might be another Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo or Guns And Roses in the making -- flops. But then again, that's another blog entry entirely.
